In late 2017, I was thrilled to take part in an event hosted by the Japan Local Government Centre (JLGC), at Dublin’s Merrion Hotel, in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan in Ireland.
The occasion marked both a 30th Anniversary Post JET Career Seminar and Returnee’s Welcome Home Reception.
JET is the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme, aimed at promoting grass-roots international exchange between Japan and other nations. I spent three years on JET living in the beautiful village of Nishiyama located in the Japanese region of Niigata. While there, I quickly immersed myself in learning about Japanese food from families and friends I got to know.
As part of the event, I gave a talk about my own JET experience and on my journey since returning to Ireland from Japan. I was also delighted to get recognition for Fused’s recent successes at the Irish Quality Food Awards from Ambassador Miyoshi, Japanese Ambassador to Ireland. I received a wonderful gift of “Umeshu,” Japanese plum or apricot wine.
