Gilmar's Homemade Burger

  • 4 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp sake or red wine
  • 1 tbsp Fused soy sauce
  • 1 egg
  • 300 g good quality beef mince
  • Few handfuls panko or regular breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil

To Serve

  • 4 buns
  • Mayonnaise
  • 1 tomato sliced
  • 4 slices edam cheese
  • 4 slices pickles
  • 4 salad leaves


  • Preheat the oven to 180C
  • Mix the ketchup, sake, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce in a large bowl. Transfer half of the sauce to a small bowl and set aside (we will use this later to coat the burger).
  • For the burger mix; add the beaten egg, beef mince and panko to the remaining half of the sauce in the large bowl and mix well together.
  • Using your hands shape the meat mix into burger patties. This should make 4 or 5 depending on the size.
  • Brush the baking tray and burgers with vegetable oil. Put the burgers on the baking tray and place in the preheated oven.
  • Cook for about 25 minutes, turning only once during this time and pouring the remaining half of the sauce over the top of the burgers in the last 5 miuntes of cooking.
  • Serve in a bun with tomato, salad leaves, pickles and cheese.


You can also enjoy this with boiled rice and steamed vegetables
